365 SUNSCREEN CHARLESTON!!!! LCPHC HEALTH INITIATIVE

In losing our dear Jimmy Buffett to the diagnosis of Merkel Cell Carcinoma, and having a few of our own members with varying skin cancers, it is our goal to bring awareness of the use of sunscreen to help prevent skin cancer.

The American Association of Dermatology (www.aad.org) specifies under their section “Shade,Clothing, and Sunscreen the following on sunscreen:

“Who needs Sunscreen?” everyone regardless of age, gender, or skin tone.

“What sunscreen should I use?” Broad Spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays; SPF 30 or higher: water resistant.

“When should I use sunscreen?” EVERYDAY, 365 DAYS PER YEAR. No matter the weather or time of year, the sun can emit rays up to 80% thru clouds, rain, snow, and 100% more on a regular sunny day.

Sunscreen Application: apply anywhere clothing is not covering, such as neck, top of feet, lips, ears, and top of your head. Apply 15 minutes before going into the sun and every 2 hours after. Sunscreens have directions on their containers on how often to apply. If you are in water or sweating, sunscreen may need to be applied more often.

Other ways to prevent harmful rays: seek shade, wear protective clothing, avoid tanning beds, use caution near water, snow, and sand.

Please visit their website for more information.

Lets keep our FINS UP and PROTECTED !!

Thanks to our partner HARKENDERM SUN SCREEN. Please visit their website www.harkenderm.com. They produce a sunscreen made for those who live or work in the sun. Boaters, surfers, construction workers, fisherman, etc. We want all PARROTHEADS, their families, and friends to be well and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.
